Donate Life Nebraska Trail Run
The first Donate Life Nebraska Trail Run and Heroes Walk to inspire organ, eye
and tissue donation is being held Saturday, July 21st at 8:00 am at Tranquility
Park in Omaha. The event includes a 5K trail run and a 1.2 mile Heroes Walk to
honor donor families who have graciously given organs, eyes and tissue of loved
ones to benefit those in need. One donor can save eight lives, restore sight to two
people and help heal another 50. Nearly 500 people in Nebraska are on the waiting
list for a lifesaving organ transplant and many more could benefit from cornea or tissue transplants.
The 3.1 mile trail run along the rolling hills of the park will provide runners with
scenic views and the opportunity to encounter nature in a new way. The event is
being organized by Donate Life Nebraska with the hope this inaugural event will
generate excitement among both families and runners alike. Donate Life
Nebraska is the local affiliate of Donate Life America, a not-for-profit alliance of
national organizations and local coalitions across the United States that have
joined forces to educate the public about organ, eye and tissue donation.
Race Director Jordan Stevens, the father of a young heart transplant recipient,
sees the event as one that will attract a wide variety of runners, walkers and
families to the festivities. Stevens daughter, Macy, received a new heart in
December 2008 and continues to do very well.
