Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University where he worked with the Campus Weather Service for two years preparing and recording weather forecasts for a dozen radio stations in Pennsylvania. He was also a student member of the American Meteorological Society. Jim also attended Lorain County Community College where he earned a minor in Biology.

Jim’s first job as a Meteorologist was at WOLO-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, where he forecast and presented the weather for the 6pm and 11pm broadcasts. He then spent 10 years as the Chief Meteorologist at KETV and 20 years as Chief Meteorologist at WOWT. During his 20 years at WOWT, Jim designed and built weather graphics with station branding and animations, created long range winter forecast schemes, presented annual winter/summer forecast seminars to meteorology staff using techniques he developed resulting in increased station accuracy, acquired and helped install the largest Doppler radar, as well as the first storm tracking system and automated severe weather crawl system in Omaha.

Some of Jim’s honors and awards include the AMS Television Seal of Approval #235, 2009 1st Place AP Regional Best Weathercast, 2005 1st Place AP Regional Best Weathercast, Aksarben Gold Award for public Service for a 30 minute special on severe weather called "When the Siren Sounds" and Nebraska State Education award for Weather School.

Being a Meteorologist has always been more than a career to Jim, it’s been a hobby. When he’s not tracking the weather, he’s usually chasing it. While working at WOWT, he chased the widest tornado on record in Hallam, Nebraska and second largest hail producing storm in the United States. Jim also enjoys hunting, both deer and turkey. He is also an avid fisherman, winning numerous local bass tournaments.

The strong sense of community is what’s kept Jim and his wife in Omaha for over 30 years. Jim is a member of the Knights of Columbus and helps out with the local fish fry.

Jim is very excited to be working at KMTV Action 3 News, and looks forward to working with the weather team and providing viewers with the most accurate weather forecast in Omaha.
