Dara Newson joined Action 3 News in April 2013. She’s an Omaha native and proud eagle graduate of Omaha Central High School.  Growing up Dara was always involved in theater, music, and writing. She thought she'd travel the world performing in Broadway musicals but life led her down a different path and she's never looked back since.

Dara attended Syracuse University where she studied Communications and Writing. She was active on campus as a member of the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble, theater club, and intern for the S.I. Newhouse Public Communications news center.

Shortly after completing her bachelor's degree at Syracuse University in 2009, Dara proudly returned home to her family and friends in Omaha. She interned and worked as a reporter at KETV Newswatch 7. She also was a freelance reporter for CBTV-17 in Council Bluffs, IA but her experience goes beyond broadcast television.

Dara has worked for the Omaha magazine and is no stranger to the Journal Broadcast Group. She worked as a promotions assistant for radio but quickly learned nothing fulfilled her desire for news like broadcast journalism. Dara landed a job as a Multi-media journalist, not too far from home in Hastings, NE at KHAS-TV. Now that she's in Omaha, Dara is beyond excited to be back in her hometown. She loves spending time with her family, close friends, and attending art or music events. Outside of work she also finds time to volunteer and be an active member of the Society of Professional Journalists.

If you're out and about, feel free to say hello to her or send her an email anytime, she'd love to hear from you.
