Development Project Trains Dozens for Work Force

Omaha, NE - The North Omaha Development Project (NODP) is teaming up with several local companies to put dozens of unemployed and under-employed people to work.  It's one of the organization's first projects.

Mutual of Omaha and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the project's corporate partners, said they needed customer service workers.  Goodwill Industries then organized a plan to recruit candidates for the jobs.  It will recruit applicants primarily from within the NODP's boundaries, including the zip codes 68104, 68110, 68112 and 68152.  Applications will be available at several North Omaha sites and online at www.projectnorthomaha.org from now until August 15th.

50 people will then train with Metro Community College from September 8th through January 30, 2009.  After that, the hiring process will begin for both companies.

Dan Neary, CEO of Mutual of Omaha and chairman of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce board of directors, says, "This program is a great example of various organizations working together to meet a need in our community.  Mutual of Omaha is excited to participate in this effort and we look forward to welcoming the first graduates of this program into our workforce."
