Omaha, NE.- David Sokol insists he wants to bury the hatchet, but plenty of questions remain following his recent fight with Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey.
The MECA board, which is headed up by Sokol, today held it's first public meeting since the feud erupted. Sokol told the board he just wants the last five days to go away. "I think Mayor Fahey and I will agree this was a period that we'd prefer expunged from the record."
The Mayor had tried to throw Sokol off the board, but Fahey blinked when big donors for the new downtown ballpark threatened to pull their contributions. It was a power play Sokol claims he had nothing to do with, "I didn't talk to a single donor, not a single phone call or any discussion of any kind....
The fight started after Sokol signed a legal document canceling his voter registration here in Nebraska. Sokol insists it was all innocent.
Action Three News Reporter Joe Jordan asked Sokol: "Some have speculated that the reason you canceled your voter registration in Nebraska was to sever any legal ties here, move to Wyoming where there is no state income tax and save a boat load of money by filing your taxes there. Is that so farfetched?"
Sokol: "It is farfetched because if you look at the rules that wouldn't accomplish anything. You actually have to move to a state. My office is here, I'm part of Berkshire Hathaway. If people look into my tax records they'll find I actually don't even take a lot of the deductions that would be allowed to me."
Jordan: "Are you offering to make your tax records available?"
Sokol: "No."
According to Sokol he wants to forgive and forget, adding it was all a mistake.
The Mayor has also said he wants to move on, but Fahey has not said it was a mistake.
