Washington D.C. - Surgeons removed part of Senator Mike Johanns' left lung Tuesday, but found no sign of cancer.
Two weeks after the November election, doctors found a spot on Johanns' lung during a routine physical. Doctors checked the lung again yesterday and scheduled the surgery for today.
A spokesperson released this statement this afternoon, "Senator Johanns is in recovery after three hours of surgery today. Doctors have indicated they found no cancer. They removed the lower lobe of Senator Johanns' left lung as a cautionary step. The Senator is resting comfortably and hopes to leave the hospital sometime tomorrow."
Voters elected Johanns in November. He was sworn in in January. Before his election to the Senate, Johanns served as Agriculture Secretary in the Bush administration.
