Omaha, NE - The Omaha Police Union is upping the rhetoric in the mayoral race.
The Union is blasting candidate Jim Vokal and Omaha City Councilman Frank Brown. It is circulating a flier to voters that claims both lawmakers are soft on sex offenders.
Aaron Hanson, the President of the Police Union talked with Action 3 News. "Frank Brown and Jim Vokal voted to strip the portion of the ordinance that would have allowed Omaha Police officers to monitor high-risk sex offenders in our neighborhoods," Hanson says.
"It is a mistruth and it's a lie," says Councilman Frank Brown. "It's a little early to be doing mudslinging. They shouldn't be doing mudslinging at all."
Councilman Jim Vokal spoke to Action 3 News about the issue. He calls the flier retaliation on the Union's part because he opposed the pension offer the union made to the city.
