Anybody? Anybody? Buehler?
If, yes if, you believe Jim Vokal's latest poll the Omaha Mayor's race is all but over.
According to the poll Former Mayor Hal Daub wins the three way primary April 7th.
(R) Daub: 35%
(R) Vokal: 29%
(D) Suttle: 16%
But then with Suttle gone, Vokal beats Daub one month later in the general election.
(R) Vokal: 43%
(R) Daub: 38%
Putting aside that nearly 30% the voters are undecided with these numbers does anything stand in Vokal's way?
Well how about another Democrat in the race? That's right a Democrat.
Put another "D" in the race and all of a sudden this is a partisan primary.
It's Suttle vs. the unknown "D" for the Democratic vote, and it's Daub vs. Vokal for the Republican vote.
With Vokal's ability to pick off Democrats likely to drop, one could easily argue that Daub, who has a load of markers among Omaha Republicans, beats Vokal.
So while Vokal's hoping for a big day on April 7th, his real "D"-Day is March 6th, that's the filing deadline for anyone interested in running for Mayor, Democrat or Republican.
