Nebraska native, Erika Summers, knows just how lucky she is to call Omaha home. She spent her childhood in Syracuse, Nebraska before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado.
She received two scholarships to attend Colorado State University. She left CSU with an Undergraduate Degree in Technical Journalism, a Minor in Political Science, and a Minor in Speech Communication.
During her college years, Erika was an Anchor and Reporter for the Campus Television Station. Her investigative story about a lack of food inspections at the University forced the school to hire another inspector and change the way it monitors the restaurants on campus.
She did an internship with the investigative team at KMGH-TV in Denver and an internship with KGWN-TV in Cheyenne, WY.
Erika says she has plenty of love for the Rams and the Huskers. Her dad's a true Nebraska boy and her mom's a UNL Alum.
Before becoming a Reporter at Action 3 News, she worked for KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska for 2 ½ years as a Reporter/Fill-In Anchor. There, she covered political elections, a visit from President George W. Bush, and jumped on a plane full of WWII Veterans who got a rare chance to experience the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. Erika even dared to participate in the Avoca Duck Races!
There's never been a time Erika didn't know what she wanted. Becoming a Reporter meant everything to her. She loves experiencing life's events first hand and has a desire to make a difference, no matter how small it may be. Erika finds it a privilege to work with such intelligent people at Action 3 News.
When she can sneak away, Erika heads straight for ski slopes. On the weekends, you can find her hanging out with her Grandma. She says she's thinking about getting a pet, maybe a goldfish.
