Action 3 News - Omaha, Nebraska News, Weather, and Sports | Liz Dorland

Liz Dorland

Liz Dorland joined the Action 3 News team in June 2008 and says it's good to be home at Channel 3.

Born in Denver, Colorado, this die-hard weather lover vividly remembers watching a small tornado just a couple of blocks from her home and instantly was hit by the weather bug.  From there her love for storms grew.  Liz lived for several years in Oklahoma City, where she learned the importance of "First Warning Weather".  Seeing first hand the power of Mother Nature's fury during the May 3, 1999 tornado outbreak instilled in her the desire and passion to protect people from the weather.  Don't worry Huskers, this Sooner girl cheers both teams on!

Liz graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.  While in College, Liz was an Alpha Chi Omega and won a Hearst Journalism Award for Hard News Reporting.  She interned at many stations including KLKN, KFOR (in Oklahoma City) and here at KMTV.  Liz is continuing her education at Mississippi State University for her degree in Meteorology.

While she loves the weather, her passion for news is equal.  Before working at Action 3 News, Liz worked at KLKN in Lincoln.  She says reporting news is important because it gives her a chance to speak for those who cannot.  Some of the most memorable stories she's covered include the Green Space Project at McPhee Elementary and the Nebraska Wesleyan Fraternity Fire.

When Liz isn't at work, she spends time with her dog, Tori.  She also enjoys traveling, swimming, painting, chasing storms, photography and spending time with good friends and family.
