Omaha, NE - A former Omaha City Councilwoman is the front-runner in the race to replace state Senator Ernie Chambers in the Nebraska Legislature.
With all precincts reporting, Brenda Council got more than 78 percent of the vote. Dennis Womack was holding a slim lead over John Carter for the second spot in the race.
Council says the district Chambers represented for 38 years is hearing her and other candidates' positions on issues for the first time in decades. Chambers, being pushed out of the Legislature by term limits, didn't campaign while in the Legislature.
He is one of 15 state senators that must leave this year because of term limits.
