Omaha, NE - She delivered her baby by herself, in secret.
Then left him in a hospital bathroom.
What's going to happen to the mother--and the baby--now?
We've been tracking new details on this story..
The Douglas County Attorney says she didn't commit any crimes, so he's not going to prosecute.
He says she cleaned the baby, wrapped him in blankets, then wrote a note that she loved him but couldn't take care of him.
County attorney Don Kleine says the mother certainly could have handled things differently.
But he says she did her best to make sure he was safe: "Her intent was to go to the maternity ward but when she got there, she got scared and left him in the restroom, knowing someone would find the child."
At the Nebraska Children's Home, they've worked with women like this scared mother.
They say the profile is age 18 to 25.
Some don't know they're pregnant, others pretend they're not.
Executive director Karen Authier tells us: "All of a sudden they can't pretend anymore because they deliver. They deliver by themselves. That's not good for them or for the baby."
This is the third baby to be abandoned in Omaha. Last May, someone left a newborn boy by a dumpster.
That mother was never found.
Two-and-a-half years ago, 18-year-old Maria Vargas left her baby in a laundry basket in the back of a closet.
Police found the newborn girl.
She eventually was adopted.
The Nebraska Children's Home says they have options to abandoning a baby. Authier tells us: "They can put a baby in a loving home until the young woman makes up her mind and not feel any pressure."
This latest baby boy doe is a ward of the state for now.
A juvenile court judge will decide what happens to him from there.
