Man Claims He Accidentally Kills Friend

Posted:

Lancaster County, NE - Tonight the family of a 28-year-old man found dead and stuffed in a closet, is speaking out. The victim's relatives are questioning whether his death was a really an accident.

On Monday, Nate Kuhn's mom calls 911 and reports her son missing. On Tuesday, a guy by the name of Chance Paap calls police and tells them he shot Nate. Paap says he left the state because it was an accident and he got scared. Not everyone believes his story.

A bizarre crime surrounding two childhood friends. Chance Paap is accused of shooting Nate Kuhn then stuffing his body in a closet. We go to the small Nebraska town where the two grew up. "He has a super big heart," says Nate's Aunt Jackie Synhorst. Synhorst fights back tears talking to us about her nephew. When we bring up Chance Paap, she knows little about him.

We're told Nate and Chance went to school together in Malcolm, NE when they were younger. But now, Nate's family tells me they hear little about Chance. In fact, it wasn't until this tragic shooting that his name came up.

Paap tells police he was spinning the gun around his finger when he accidentally shot Nate. Nate's dad tells me he doesn't buy it and he told his sister the same thing. "I know that's what he mentioned to me as well but I honestly didn't know any of the details at all." With so many horrible details surrounding the crime, Nate's family instead focuses on the man he was, especially to his young daughter Hailee.  "He tried his hardest to be a good dad and he loved her a lot," says Nate's cousing Katelynn Synhorst.

We found pictures of the two on MySpace. Also on his page he writes, "Play a little bit today, life's short."

Papp will be in court tomorrow. He is arrested for manslaughter.
